Antagonism (noun)

  • Definition: Active hostility or opposition.
  • Sentence: The deep-seated antagonism between the two families fueled a feud that lasted for generations.

Aplomb (noun)

  • Definition: Self-confidence or assurance, especially when in a demanding situation.
  • Sentence: The young orator delivered her controversial speech with remarkable aplomb, despite the heckling from the back of the room.

Clemency (noun)

  • Definition: Mercy; lenience.
  • Sentence: The protestors gathered outside the courthouse to petition the governor for clemency on behalf of the wrongly convicted man.

Collusion (noun)

  • Definition: Secret or illegal cooperation or conspiracy, especially in order to cheat or deceive others.
  • Sentence: The investigation revealed evidence of collusion between the two rival companies to fix prices and eliminate competition.

Comport (verb)

  • Definition: To conduct oneself; to behave in a specific manner.
  • Sentence: During the formal state dinner, the ambassadors were expected to comport themselves with the utmost dignity.

Convivial (adjective)

Querulous (adjective)

  • Definition: Complaining in a petulant or whining manner.
